The original BPF skid plate that started it all, the first product made by Bullet Proof Fabricating for the Toyota Tacoma

Why We Started Bullet Proof Fabricating: Built in North America, Engineered for Toyota

Bullet Proof Fabricating didn't start with a business plan. It started with a truck I couldn't afford.

It Started With a Tacoma

Like a lot of Toyota fans, I had wanted a Tacoma for years. The reliability, the resale value, the styling. There's a reason these trucks hold their value better than almost anything else on the road. But at the time, buying one outright wasn't in the cards. So I did what any resourceful person would do: I figured out a way to make it happen.

I started fabricating and selling a few parts here and there, thinking the income would help cover the cost of the truck. A skid plate here, a set of tow hooks there. Little did I know that what started as a side hustle to fund a truck purchase would turn into a full business.

The First Product: A Skid Plate

The skid plate was where it all began. It's one of the most practical upgrades you can make to a Tacoma.  Protecting the undercarriage on trails, over rocks, and through terrain that would otherwise cause expensive damage. I knew the product well because I wanted one myself. That's still how we approach every part we build: if we wouldn't run it on our own truck, we don't sell it.

From there came tow hooks, then cooling panels, each piece designed from scratch for a specific vehicle and generation rather than adapted from a universal design.

TacomaWorld and the Community That Built Us

Before there was a website, there was TacomaWorld. That forum community was where BPF first found its audience . Real Tacoma owners who knew their trucks, asked hard questions, and weren't interested in parts that were just good enough. Getting feedback from that community early on shaped how we build and what we build. It also taught us that Toyota owners are a different breed: loyal, knowledgeable, and serious about quality.

The website came later, once demand made it clear this was more than a side project.

Why Toyota, and Why Exclusively

We get asked this a lot. The honest answer is that it comes down to genuine passion for the brand. Toyota's reliability and engineering philosophy align with how we think about fabrication. Build it right the first time, make it last, don't cut corners. Specializing exclusively in Toyota fitments means every part we design is engineered for a specific vehicle and generation. The fitment is tighter, the finish is better, and the end result is a part that actually works the way it's supposed to.

We're not trying to be everything to everyone. We'd rather be the best option for Toyota owners than a mediocre option for everyone.

Manufactured in North America

Every BPF part is designed in-house and manufactured in North America (Canada). That's not a marketing line.  it's a decision we made early and have stuck with. It gives us control over quality, faster iteration when we want to improve a design, and the ability to stand behind every part we ship.

Where We're Headed

The Tacoma and 4Runner remain our core focus, with a growing lineup that now includes bed racks, compressor mounts, MOLLE panels, grilles, bed stiffeners, and more. We're actively expanding to additional vehicle families, but we'll do it the same way we've done everything else. One well-engineered part at a time.

If you're building out a Toyota and want parts made by people who actually care about the platform, you're in the right place. If you have an idea for a part let us know. We would love to make that happen.
